JAPN 404: ADVANCED JAPANESE RESEARCH
Course Description:
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in communication through oral and written presentations to finalize research project for Capstone in Japanese using appropriate media. Taught in Japanese. (Credit/No Credit Available) (Prereq: JAPN 202 or JAPN 300)
Reflective Narrative:
This course was the second part of the pre-capstone course I took in the fall semester. It is a course that is unique in the WLC department to the Japanese major, and it is here that we further worked on our capstone projects while gaining aid from our advisers. This course helped fulfill MLO 4 the research and technology portion of the major, since we were continuing to learn how to properly conduct our research while integrating aspects of technology with our presentations and papers. We learned proper formatting and how to best structure our papers.
I also think that this course should be a part of MLO 1 the language and communication portion of the major, since we were learning more about how to do the research and writing in the Japanese language. We learned more about how to structure Japanese papers, and how to take what we wanted to say and actually putting it into written form (academic written form), which is not something I had ever really had to do before. Then we would also frequently present what we had furthering our presentation skills in the language.
This course was quite intensive, but was very helpful in learning how to do the more academic side of learning the Japanese language, whereas up til now we had been focusing really on just how to speak in general. This was a valuable course, and I highly doubt I would have been able to properly do the Japanese capstone if I hadn't taken this course.
