JAPN 402: Japanese Literature
Course Description:
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency through introducing various aspects of modern Japanese literature, including short stories and significant works by authors of the modern period. Taught in Japanese. (Credit/No Credit Available) (Prereq: JAPN 202 or JAPN 300)
Reflective Narrative:
As far as the interpretative aspect, we have learned how to read/understand various types of literature. We also constructed poems, haiku, and short stories, which aids us in communicating with others about Japanese culture. Then with culture, we learned about famous Japanese literature and authors.
We composed haiku and poems, wrote a picture book, wrote book reports and reflections, and analyzed the various literature. I wrote a paper on 小さな闇 (A Small Darkness) and then did my final presentation/paper on 最後の一句 (Saigo no Ikku) a short story written by Mori Ogai.
The work completed in this course attributed to the cultural aspect of the major through our own writing assignments, and by learning about the different well-known authors in Japanese literature. Then the assignments also added to our knowledge of the language because we had to analyze Japanese works and write our own. This course helped expend our knowledge in Japanese literature while simultaneously expanding our understanding of the Japanese language
