JAPN 403: Pre-Capstone
Course Description:
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in communication through oral and written presentations to develop research project for Capstone in Japanese using appropriate media. (Credit/ No Credit Available) (Prereq: JAPN 202 or JAPN 300)
Reflective Narrative:
This class was an introduction to the Capstone class taken in the spring. It was to help us prepare for the upcoming capstone course and assignment. In this class we learned about how to do the research for our project getting both a literature review and our own personal surveys. To do this we learned about where to go to find our background research, what search engines and databases to use, and so on. We then would also frequently report and practice presenting what we had throughout the semester.
The topic I chose to do my capstone project on was "University student's views on having children." I did a comparative research project on the declining birth rates in Japan and America, and how students from both countries view having children. For the background research portion I was able to use the EBSCO Host and Google Scholar to find the resources I needed.
We also learned how to conduct our own research, which we later did by creating our own surveys on Google Forms to develop our thesis. The use of this site to form our surveys and the databases that we used to gather our research contributed to the research and technology portion of our major, or of MLO 4.
